General information
Settlement on the western coast of the island of Cres, placed in the bay of the same name that is well-protected from the Bura wind; 186 inhabitants. The sea is 40 m deep at the outer anchoring place. The small harbor is suitable only for small fishing boats. The 36 m long breakwater protects it from the southwest. At the outer end of the breakwater, the sea is 2-2,5 m deep and 1-2 m by the pier. Martinšćica is, besides the town of Cres, the only important coastal settlement on the island. The economy is based on fishing. It is connected by local road to the regional road that passes through the island of Cres. This picturesque tourist destination is known for its splendid 500 m long pebble beach. Mediterranean vegetation, terrace-like olive groves, typical fishing atmosphere and the offer of homegrown products, complemented by those from the neighboring places (Miholašćice, Štivana, Vidovića), make it a pleasant tourist destination. Camping lovers will find an ideal spot in the nearby camping site Slatina (600 places) with sports facilities (tennis, volleyball, mini-golf), and water sports center offering boat rental, servicing of oxygen tanks and so on. The apartment complex of Sv. Martin with I and II category apartments is located nearby.
