General information
PEROJ is a place 5 km west of Vodnjan. Many sacral buildings lie on the western edge of the settlement: medieval church sv. Stjepan; sv. Spiridon church; sv. Foska church.
Highlights of the Place:
- the place of Peroj was known during Roman times by the name of Praetoriolum or CASALE PETRIOLO as a summer resort. Located in the old core is a centuries-old Lote tree, unique in Istria. In the area of Peroj-Batvače, a frequent destination of pilgrims and artists is the old basilica of Sv. Foška (9th – 10th century). After the pilgrimage, one feels renewed. The coastline of Peroj consists of limestone rocks that lower to the sea and is surrounded by pebble beaches, stretching to the bays of Portić and Marić, as well as Dragoneri. - 3 km from the fishing settlement of Fažana, 10 min. by ferry to Brijuni National Park – fourteen green gems immersed in the blue sea. Unique harmonious combination of flora and fauna.
