Cardinals Valley and visit of local vine cellers
Half day bus excursions
When you come to Krašić you will have a feeling of being transported to another world. It is the village of our grandparents. Wide, fertile valley of the river Kupčina edged with oak forest and irresistible farmyards with preserved old wooden houses. This is the Valley of Peace, the Valley of Cardinals. A proper name for this breathtaking place. The very first person who comes to one's mind when Krašić is mentioned is the Blessed Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac (1898 - 1960), archbishop of Zagreb. He is the reason why many people visit Krašić. The Cardinal spent his childhood in Krašić where he also served his first mass upon his return from the studies in Rome. He spent the last days of his life in Krašić after a shameful court trial and subsequent imprisonment in Lepoglava prison. Anniversary of Cardinal's 100th birthday was marked on 8th May 1998 when a monument was placed on the newly reconstructed square in front of the parish church. Two memorial rooms where Cardinal Stepinac used to live were open to the public in the old rectory of the Holy Trinity church. The Cardinal lived there between 1951 and 1960. Each day he walked to the chapel of St. John, also worth seeing. On the hill rising above the church a huge cross was placed as the first station of the Way of the Cross many pilgrims take. After this visit road to the local well known vineyards and vine tasting together with a typical diner.
